After weeks of arguing back and forth in Congress, the US government has finally reopened. Many offices and services are going back to normal. Workers are finally going to get paid again.

But what does this mean for the Youths, the students, fresh graduates and even job seeker and early investors? This reopening brings a mix of relief and questions. The shutdown may be over, but its effects will definitely still be felt for awhile.

Government Services Starting Up Again

During the shutdown, a lot of things slowed or stopped, think of passport applications, job applications in the government, student aid and research. Now everything is restarting, but definitely not instantly, there are HUGE backlogs.

For youths, this means that student aids and FAFSA will reply again and resume, but slower.

Internships and jobs with the US Government will reopen, but deadlines may shift.

Passport process has finally resumed , but expect a waiting time.

In short, things are getting better, slowly improving, however delays will still be there.

Job Market Still Uncertain for Many

The reopening is definitely good, but companies are still nervous. When the government shuts down, it makes businesses worry about the economy and instability. Companies are careful so it takes time for them to regain confidence again.

If you are looking for a job in the US now, you may notice that Government internships will restart but some companies might have slower hiring. Companies may also choose to adopt contracts and part-time work as a precautionary measure and it could grow faster than full-time roles.

The job market it back and no longer in danger, however don't expect too much as it is not fully stable either.

Investing now? Stay calm

When the government reopened, the stock market reacted quickly, going up as investors felt a little relieved. Do not be in a rush to react as well as the markets may still move up and down because the same old political drama could happen anytime.

Instead, as a young investor you should be learning to not panic when markets move.

Invest slowly and consistently, not chasing hype or random social media tips from your favourite gurus or advisors from TikTok or Instagram.

Focus on long-term growth and not daily headlines, you are still young.

The World watching the US

When a superpower like the US shuts down, many countries lose confidence. When it reopens, confidence slowly returns.

This matters for youths who want to work in global jobs, internships or even venture to invest overseas, because the US economy affects everything from jobs to crypto and stock market prices.

The US government reopening is definitely good news, but the after-effects will take time to settle.

For the youths services will return but slowly and job opportunities will open up with companies still being careful.

Markets will be less volatile but still a little shaky.

The shutdown is over, but the impact on you still continue. Remember to stay informed, steady and don't rush into rash decisions making because the US government opened.
